First day of school flag raising at GMG Elementary By Margaret Thomsen
GMG Elementary students and staff began the August 23 first day of school with opening ceremonies by the Gladbrook American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary. Legion Auxiliary Americanism Chairman Lisa Reinhard thanked Principal Chris Frimml and the GMG Elementary for having the Legion present the first day of school opening on August 23. Reinhard stated, ” … We raise this flag to celebrate our community and country. As Americans we hear a lot about the rights we have – the freedom of speech, the right to assemble, the right to bear arms, freedom of religion – to name a few. We also have a duty to the United States to be good citizens. We should be fair and honest with our school work and in sports. We need to follow the rules and obey the laws. We should be respectful to others – even if we disagree with them. Be helpful. Be kind. Work together to make the GMG Community a great place to learn. By being a good person, we show we appreciate what this country has provided us – so be a good citizen; be a good person today, tomorrow and always.”
- Junior Auxiliary members raising the flag at GMG Elementary were Kenzie Bartel, Bryleigh Bartell, Alaney Sienknecht, Brayla Davis and Carlee Smith.
