Tama Co. Supervisors By Joyce Wiese

The Tama County Board of Supervisors met Monday morning with Supervisor Larry Vest on speaker phone. Vest was unable to be present at the meeting. A request to abate taxes on a Mobile Home at the Toledo Mobile Home Park, Highway 63, for a trailer formerly in the name of Jindrich, by County Treasurer Michelle Yuska, was granted. The trailer has been removed and been vacant for some time. The amount involved is $1426. After discussion and finding the trailer removed the request was approved. Two utility permits gained approval. Poweshiek Water Association was granted a permit for work to be done in Tama Township and Windstream was approved for work to be done in Toledo Township. County Sheriff Dennis Kucera was present to give a short report on the status of prisoners in the jail. Kucera stated at the present time there was thirty six prisoners which is over the maximum. Kucera stated the normal count is about twenty. Kucera stated some prisoners have been transported recently. County Engineer Lyle Brehm says he will be attending a meeting on the resurfacing the old Highway 30, now Highway E49. This is scheduled for resurfacing this year from the Marshall County line east to the east side of Montour. Bernie Lowe with Bernie Lowe and Associates was present to give an update on Insurance, with information on the Affordable Care Act. Claims approved for payment came to $154,02.17.
