GMG Speech Teams perform at District

GMG Large Group Speech Teams performed at Grinnell High School in the Iowa High School Speech Association District Contest on January 21. We took fourteen entries and six received a I Rating and will advance to State.

Our only senior participant, Jasmine Deal, joined speech for the first time this year. She entered a Solo Mime, “Champion Pie”, and received a II. Kayla Vavroch is new this year and also entered a Solo Mime, “My Horse and Me at Fair”. She earned a II.

Two freshmen, Christian Deam and Jevan Stokely, performed “Stuck in a Box” for Group Mime. They received a II Rating.

Connor Casto, Kyla Krier and Daniel Hughes chose Group Improv and will advance to State with a I rating. Wes Stieiner, Chase Deam and Ethan Karsjen performed Group Improv and will perform at State.

Freshmen Jackson Edens, Christian Deam and Jevan Stokely brought home a I in Group Improv. The Radio Broadcast done by the ninth gals received a II. Speakers were Grace Schewe, Hallie Claussen, Lindsey Slifer,Megan Kohn and Reahna Van Rees.

Both Senior Team Radio Broadcasting received a I rating. KWWX 640 Drive By News included Austin Strayer, Chase Deam, Ethan Karsjen, Haley Stahl, Joe Cornwell, Kyla Wilkening and Wes Steiner. The KWC 540 Noon Farm Show included Mable Dieleman, Connor Casto, Parker Welton, Presley Bland and Spencer Tweedy.

Ninth Ensemble Acting, “Eagles Scream, Too” received a II. Team members were Lindsey Slifer, Megan Kohn and Jackson Edens. “Camping Chaos”, Ensemble Acting with four freshman girls also received a II. Performers included Hallie Claussen,Grace Schewe, Tabitha Kauten and Talia Trumbo.

Austin Strayer, Joe Cornwell and Jasmine Deal entered Group Improv and earned a II. Freshman girls tried Improv and received a II. The group members were Reahna Van Rees, Tabitha Kauten and Talia Trumbo.

The Speech Team and Coach want to recognize Mr. Dan Lastovka for his technology expertise in recording the Radio Broadcasting. We could not present the quality entries with out him.

Thanks to all the parents and grandparents who attended the event. It is so nice to perform with a friendly face in the audience.

The next two weeks will find the team practicing for State Contest at Cedar Rapids Washington on February 4.
