Before Judge Mary E. Chicchelly in Tama County District Court in Toledo:


Trudi Ann Mathes, 34, rural Tama, pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the crime of attempted burglary and two counts of 3rd degree burglary. She was granted deferred judgments and civil penalties totaling $2,150 were suspended. Law enforcement initiative surcharges of $375 and court costs of $513 were assessed. Mathes was placed on supervised probation for three years to the 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services. She was charged following after allegedly entering a home in the 600 block of Harmon Street in Tama by removing a window air conditioner and then gaining access. Coins were then taken. The charges were filed by Tama Police Officer Neil Frizzell. Nathan Lewis Purk, 18, Marshalltown, pleaded guilty to assault causing injury. He was sentenced to a suspended, 365-day jail sentence and assessed a fine and court costs total $585. Purk was charged on Sept. 27 for allegedly assaulting another person by Tama Police Officer Neil Frizzell. Brandon John Thran, 19, Reinbeck, was granted a deferred judgment on a charge of 2nd degree criminal mischief. He was assessed a $750 civil penalty which was suspended and must pay $65 court costs. Thran was also directed to pay $1,000 restitution to the Tama Police Department and $651 to Continental Western Group. He was charged on Jan. 19, 2106, when he allegedly damaged a Tama Police Department patrol car when struggling with officers attempting to place him in the car. The charge was filed by Tama Police Officer Travis Foster. Thran had been stopped by Iowa State Trooper Jared Rude for alleged traffic offenses. Brittany Ann Sells, 27, homeless, pleaded guilty to charges of 4th degree criminal mischief and assault on persons in certain occupations. Sentences of 90 days in jail and $315 fines in each case were suspended. Sells was placed on probation to the Department of Correctional Services and directed to pay restitution to the Tama County Sheriff’s Office for a broken window. She was charged for allegedly damaging a Sheriff’s Office patrol car window by Toledo Police Sgt. Dan Quigley and assaulting a jailer at the Tama County Jail by Deputy Sheriff Brian Randall.


Before Judge Patrick R. Grady: Jeremiah Lee Johnson, 40, Cedar Rapids, admitted violation of terms of probation. He was found in contempt of court and sentenced to 60 days in the Tama County Jail in Toledo, After serving time he was directed to return to a community correctional center in Cedar Rapids. A probation report alleged Johnson had returned from furlough to the center and tested positive of alcohol consumption when he entered. This was a violation of his probation rules. Johnson had been sentenced to a suspended, five-year prison term on a 3rd offense drunken driving charge and placed on supervised probation. Nicholas Robert Kemmerling, 36, Cedar Rapids, admitted being in violation of terms of probation and was found in contempt of court. He was sentenced to three days in the Tama County Jail, directed to pay court costs and will continue on probation. Kemmerling was accused in a probation violation of testing positive for methamphetamine use, failing to secure employment and failure to make payments on court costs and probationary fees. He wa orginally placed on probation on Sept. 12, 2014, on a conviction of prohibited acts- manufacture, delivery, conspiracy or possession to deliver methamphetamine.
