Tama Co. Supervisors By Joyce Wiese

Jim Roan, Toledo, representing the Wieting Theater, gave a report on the “Phase Two” of the restoration of the Wieting Theater. Phase one was completed in 2012 and the group is now ready to prepare for Phase 2. Phase 2 will include reinforcing beams in the basement under the seating area with metal braces, tiling around the building to get the moisture out of the basement, building an addition on t he northeast corner of the building to be used for a dressing room. Several other things are on the list. The Phase 2 restoration is needed particularly if the theatre is to be used for live performing arts. Roan says the Theater Guild is made up of fifteen persons, Denise Fletcher being the President of the Guild, and they have approximately 125 volunteers. They have looked into contractors, architects and a structural engineer. The Guild is planning on applying for a Vision Iowa Grant, as well as many other grants. The guild has raised money for the Phase one project and has that paid in full. Lyle Brehm, County Engineer stated the road crew was out Sunday for snow removal in areas, and have all trucks winterized for the coming months. Brehm says they have started on the Chambers bridge and hope to have some work done before the end of December. Brehm says it is possible they could haul some rock but not likely. Claims approved for payment for t he past week came to $126,591.82.
