Message from Our Mayor
Here it is a beautiful fall day and I think I should write something positive about our community instead of all the negative things that I have been writing about lately. First, how about Jennifer Wrage being inducted into the UNI softball hall of fame. What an outstanding award and very well deserved. Congratulations Jennifer on this great honor. How about the GR football team? They are 4-0 as of last Friday night. They look great. Keep up the good work. The bike trail has been totally resurfaced and it is very nice to walk or ride your bike on. Now is a good time as the leaves are beginning to turn and the geese are bunching up and getting ready to migrate. You might even see a deer or two. Go out and enjoy one of Gladbrook’s many attractions, you won’t be sorry. The new bridge on Green Street (Dutch Row) is progressing along fine. It should be done in a few weeks. Also, I am sure most of you have noticed several of our streets have been resurfaced. It sure helps to smooth them out and get rid of the potholes. The million dollar lagoon project is coming along slowly but will be done on time this fall. Hopefully this will make the DNR happy. Your city council has just received the city’s 2016 financial audit from Bowman and Miller. Beth Miller says our town is in great shape financially for a town of our size. We have gained in the general fund, city centre and the fitness center. Also in road use, in sewer fund revenue and local option sales tax. The city centre’s big boost came from Matchstick with all of Pat Actons’ new creations. Thank you Pat. Expenses have gone up a little in public safety with the ambulance purchasing a new cot and training new members. Public works has purchased a new street sweeper and that service fund is down with fire and ambulance building loan being paid off in 2015. The total audit is available to anyone whom wants to see it at city hall. Now some of the best news. The library board has hired Beth Wegner back as librarian and the library is back open on regular schedule. How about that. Nothing negative at all!!

P. S. Congratulations to Anne Stocker and the Gladbrook Insurance Agency on their beautiful remodeling job. Thanks for believing in Gladbrook and keeping us alive and growing.
