Fire-Breathing Dragon at Matchstick Marvels
Don’t miss Pat Acton’s newest matchstick creation, a fire-breathing two-headed dragon! The dragon, which is on display at Matchstick Marvels Tourist Center though Saturday, June 25, flaps his wings, roars at visitors, and even “breathes” fire, with the help of lights and animation. The dragon stands five feet tall with a ten-foot wing-span and an overall length of eleven feet. Over the past nine months, Acton used 272,000 matchsticks, most of which had to be individually bent and shaped before being glued into place using a total of nine gallons of wood glue. The dragon is automated with moving wings, simulated fire breathing, and fierce sound effects. It must be seen in person to appreciate the fine detail and special effects.
