Tama Co. Supervisors
By Joyce Wiese Tama County Supervisors Larry Vest, Dan Anderson and Kendall Jordan Monday morning , in regular session, discussed the disposal of the old Tama County Home, recently called Pheasant Ridge. All residents have been removed from the home and are now living in homes in city limits, leaving the building unoccupied. Supervisors are trying to come up with the best solution for the building without imposing extra expense to the county. Nothing definite was decided. However supervisors decided to work toward selling the building. They agreed it would take several work sessions to decide how and what should be done. Several suggestions were made as to how to advertise, including Craig’s list, newspapers, etc. County Engineer Lyle Brehm reports there will be a time for public comments on the removal of the Chamber Bridge in Salt Creek Township, in southeast Tama County. April 11th at 10:00 a.m. will be a time for comments and information on the bridge. Chambers Bridge was built in 1890 and was a main route for those in southeast Tama County to get to Belle Plaine. A second span of this bridge was added in 1902. In 1998 the Chambers Bridge was place on the National Register of Historic Places. Back in 2007 the County Board of Supervisors agreed the Bridge should be closed to traffic due to the weakness in the structure of the bridge. Many Tama County residents have requested having the bridge restored or replaced. The time has come when something will happen. If you are interested, attend the supervisors meeting on Monday, April 11th at 10:00 a.m.. Another bridge to be worked on is the “McFate” Bridge on 280th Street, north and west of Toledo, possibly in April. In other business the appointment of Safety Officers was postponed till next week. Public Information Officer named was Mindy Benson, county Emergency Management-E911 director. Claims approved for t he past week came to $293,108.93.
