American Legion celebrates 97th birthday

Post Commander Ron Busch presented 50 year membership certificates and pins to Don Hein, Leo Lohse and Roger Sievers.

The Gladbrook Auxiliary hosted a supper for the Gladbrook Legion on March 21st. It was in honor of the 97 birthday of the American Legion. Jr. Justina Eggers gave a table grace. After the dinner Angela Wrage played the piano and sang three songs all with the moon theme. She also told of her travels this past year. After the singing of the military songs, Post Commander Ron Busch announced membership awards. Those recognized were Don Hein, Leo Lohse and Roger Sievers for 50 years; Keith DeWitt and Erwin Oettchen for 60 years, and Ray Landt for 70 years. Unit President Jeanne Paustian presented a birthday cake, that was made and decorated by Maxine Bottema, to Commander Ron for the Legion to enjoy at their next meeting. Everyone sang “Happy Birthday”. The program ended with everyone singing “God Bless America”. Hostesses were Karen Pieper and Cynthia Eggers with several Juniors helping as well.
