Tama Co. Supervisors

By Joyce Wiese Monday morning, March 7, the Tama County Board of Supervisors, 1st District Larry Vest, 2nd District Kendall Jordan and 3d District Dan Anderson, met in regular session with County Engineer Lyle Brehm. Brehm was asked if he reports to the DOT on gas tax expenditures. Brehm says the state requests a report as it helps their department determine if or not the money is being spent wisely and usefully. Brehm says that Tama County has plans for three bridges to be worked on. These bridges are considered structurally inefficient. Brehm stated they take the deck off bridges in this condition and redo the piling and then replace the deck. Brehm also stated they are not required to report to the state. A new requirement is to pass a resolution on elected official compensation. The resolution states the Tama County Compensation Board recommended five percent (5%) increases for the County Auditor, County Recorder, County Sheriff and the County Treasurer, four percent (4%) for the County Attorney and three and one half (3 1/2) percent for the County Supervisors. On January 11, 2016 the County Board of Supervisors met in regular session and voted to reduce the recommendation by twenty percent (20%). This made the salaries as following: County Auditor (4%) from $52,152.00 to $54 ,238.00. County Attorney (3.2%) $79,639.00 to $82,188.00. County Recorder (4%) $52,010.00 to $54,090.00. County Sheriff (4%) $66,624.00 to $69,289.00. County Treasurer (4%) $52,080.00 to $54,163.00. The Tama County Board of Supervisors will receive a 2.8% increase, $28,169.00 to $28,958.00 In other business a Utility Permit was approved for work to be done in Lincoln Township in northwest Tama County by the Grundy County REC.
