Sosalla in Tama County District Court in Toledo: Erin Venessa Leeper, 33, Gladbrook, pleaded guilty to perjury and a sentencing date of April 14 was set. Leeper admitted registering to vote in the September, 2015, Gladbrook-Reinbeck school election when prohibited to do so as a convicted felon. She previously was convicted on charges of 2nd degree theft in March , 2014, and child endangerment-bodily injury on 2007, both in Marshall County. The perjury charged was filed on Sept. 15, 2015, by Tama County Sheriff’s Detective Bruce Rhoads. Leeper had also faced a charge of 1st degree election misconduct filed on Oct. 18 in a County Attorney’s information. Claude Lisle Smith, 71, Garwin, entered an Alford plea to a charge of assault causing bodily injury. In the plea, Smith acknowledged a jury would likely find him guilty and he wished to accept the plea bargain available. He was directed to pay fine and court costs totaling $736. Smith was originally charged on July 17, 2015, with assault with a deadly weapon. According to court records he was accused of swinging a small wooden bat type object at an individual at the American Legion Bar in Garwin. The charge was field by Tama County Deputy Sheriff Casey Schmidt. Seger Tyronne Brown, 37, rural Tama, admitted violating terms of probation. His probation was amended directing Brown to reside at a community-based correctional facility for up ot 365 days. He was placed on probation on a charge of failure ot register as a sex offender, 2nd offense on Dec. 31, 2015.
