Message from Our Mayor
As most of you know, Lori Bearden has resigned and taken a job as City Clerk of State Center. Lori has been a great asset to Gladbrook the past eight years and her knowledge and work ethics are the top of the line. She will be greatly missed by the council and me. We wish Lori the best of luck in the future and thank her for her past service. Thank you, Lori! We have started the search for a new city clerk and would encourage anyone interested in the job to pick up an application at City Hall any morning. What a great week this past week has been with temperatures in the 60’s the last week of February. How much better can it get? It is also great to look east down Main St. and see it full of cars both at noon and at night. What a great start up week for Spanky’s Restaurant with a full house every night. I’m sure Mandy and crew were overwhelmed at times. Like all new businesses they need a little time to work out a few small bumps – and they will. I ate there three times last week and the food was great every time from sandwiches to ribeyes. Besides, Jo needs a break! Next, how about the GR boys basketball team who will be playing in the State Tournament again this year. What a tremendous group of young men. We all are very proud of them and wish all of them the best of luck again this year. Gladbrook’s Main St. is bubbling from one end to the other with a lot of excitement going on. Gladbrook Bowl is one of the businesses I have not mentioned in a long time. It’s a great place to bring the family on the weekends or to bowl in a league during the week. Ron and Holly would be glad to see you and if you are hungry, Holly makes the best hamburger sandwich in the country. Work your way up Main St. and you will see all the improvements that have been done to the store fronts, then go inside and it really gets good. I’m not going to name all the businesses but you can see for yourself. Going all the way to the library, Beth Wegner and Pat Sievers and their volunteers really have the library busy. Bring your kids for the reading and holiday parties – you won’t be disappointed. Thanks to all of these young people and business owners for making Gladbrook a great place to live and grown our kids. The Corn Carnival Committee is meeting regularly and they are always looking for new ideas and new volunteers. Give us a call! The dates are June 23-26 this year.
Keith Sash, Mayor
PS – According to Ray Landt and Dale Osten, the theater where Spanky’s Restaurant is located, was built in 1935-36.
