Clinton, Trump win in Tama County Caucuses

With 100 percent of precincts reporting in Tama County, Hillary Clinton won on the Democratic side in the Monday, Feb. Iowa Caucus with 52.9 percent of the vote with Bernie Sanders receiving 47.1 percent. Vote totals are not reported by the Democrats, only percentages.
Donald Trump was the Republicans top choice in Tama County with 350 votes or 35.6 percent of the county-wide preference. Ted Cruz was second with 31.2 percent or 307 votes; third- Marco Rubio- 12.5 percent – 123 votes; Ben Carson and Mike Huckabee- fourth – 8.4 percent each with each receiving 83 votes.
At 10 p.m., with 93 percent on the caucus vote reported for Tama County, Hillary Clinton leads Bernie Sanders 53.6 – 46.4 percent according to the official reporting site. Meanwhile, it is reported to a near dead heat state-wide.
On the Republican side, while Ted Cruz is being declared the winner in Iowa, results in the GOP Caucus in Tama County, or county-by-county state-wide were not available from the official reporting site.
Jeff Stein, a political analyst on Radio Iowa, said earlier in the evening the breakdown may be attributed to an even heavier than expected voter turnout. Stein, A Toledo, Iowa, native, is a journalism professor at Wartburg College, Waverly and a frequent political commentator on radio and television in the state.
