Missed court appearance in 2009, defendant comes forth

Bruns in Tama County District Court in Toledo: Louis Anthony Colon, 49, Haverhill, Mass., has pleaded guilty by filing a written guilty plea to a charge of failure to appear for arraignment in Tama County District Court on that charge more than five years later. He was cited in March, 2009. In December, 2005, Colon also did not appear and a $195 bond was forfeited at the time. Both charges stemmed from his orignal arrest for 1st offense drunken driving filed by the Iowa State Patrol on Nov. 6, 2004. Colon lived in Gladbrook at the time, according to the Tama County Sheriff’s Office. In a plea agreement entered into in December, Colon pleaded guilty to failure to appear and was fined and assessed court costs totaling $623. The drunken driving charge was dismissed. Michael Jones, Marshalltown, an Iowa Public Defender assigned to Tama County, told The Chronicle Colon called his office about the case last year. The proceedings were conducted from there. Before Judge Kevin McKeever: Daniel Mark Ditmarson, 58, homeless, entered a written plea of guilty to driving while barred. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail with credit for any time served and to pay jail fees. He was also fined and assessed court costs totaling $1,004. Ditmarson was charged on Sept. 21, 2015, in the 200 block of State Street, by Tama Police Sgt. Jason Bina. Daniel James Downing, 30, Evansdale, entered a written plea of guilty to 2nd offense drunken driving. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail with all but 17 days suspended with credit for 17 days already served. He was assessed a fine and court costs totaling $2,701 and placed on self-supervised probation for two years, directed to complete a drinking drivers course at Kirkwood College, Cedar Rapids and his driver’s license was revoked for two years. Dowing may perform community service to pay the fine. Downing was charged on Nov. 7, 2015, at the U.S. Highway 30 Expressway and U.S. Highway 63 off ramp and loop by State Trooper Jared Rude. Jenna Leanne McClintock, 28, Garrison, pleaded guilty to three counts of forgery and received a deferred judgement. She was placed on supervised probation to the 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services for five years, She was also assigned to a residential correctional facility for up to 365 days. Civil penalties totaling $750 on each of the three charges were suspended and she is responsible to pay victim restitution. In addition she was assessed court costs totaling $723. Six additional forgery counts were dismissed by the court. McClintock was charged for writing a series of forged checks in Dysart on the account of a deceased female who had lived in Vinton. The charges were filed by Dysart Police Officer Ben Parmater. Michael Guy Wabaunasee, 31, Toledo, entered a written guilty plea to a charge of assault with intent to inflict serious injury. He was sentenced to a two-year, suspended prison sentence and placed on probation for two years to the 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services. He was fined and assessed court costs totaling $965. He must also pay victim restitution fees to be established. Wabaunasee was charged on Oct. 21 for assaulting another person by beating him about the face and head, According to the officer’s complaint, Wabaunassee allegedly had his thumbs in the victim’s eyes in the process of “gouging his eyes out” before witnesses were able to pull him off. The charge was filed by Meskwaki Nation Tribal Police Officer Eric S. Lindsey.
