Tama County Freedom Rock to be completed by Christmas
Tama County Freedom Rock located at the All Veterans Memorial in Gladbrook will be completed by Christmas 2015.
Gladbrook is indeed “Alive and Growing” and our wait to get the Tama County Freedom Rock painted is becoming a reality. We were originally scheduled for August 2018. An e-mail from Sorensen Studios last week asked if any of the counties waiting to get their project completed would be willing to have it painted in December, January or February. Our snow had melted, the temperatures were mild so why not go for it! The Freedom Rock committee said to say we were interested and to ask what we had to do in preparation. A reply said Ray Sorensen would require a heated tent, big enough for him to work in and with adequate ventilation. The rock would need to be warmed at least 24 hours prior to painting and 24 hours after…no problem for farmers with white propane heaters. The patriotic design will be at his discretion Ideas for a tent big enough (the rock is 9 ft 3 inches tall) was just a small challenge really as we have carnival stand frames and a roof canvas already. With the help of SAL members, the Gladbrook Legion plans to enclose the rock on Thursday in preparation for its warm-up and paint job starting on Monday, December 7. The community is excited to see another project completed and if you drive by next week, give a honk of encouragement as ‘Bubba’ Sorensen is hard at work on Tama County’s Freedom Rock in time for Christmas. Donations will be accepted at the December 18th fish-fry sponsored by the Gladbrook SAL or mailed to Roger Sievers, 501 Garfield St, Gladbrook Iowa 50635
