Tama Co. Supervisors

By Joyce Wiese Tama County Engineer Lyle Brehm reported there were trucks out Sunday morning taking care of the snow. Brehm said his equipment is ready for the winter season. Jessica Rilling was present at the supervisor meeting to introduce herself. Rilline represents the Ioewa Valley Rural Community and Development (RC&D) board. Rilling’s district covers Tama, Poweshiek, Benton, Iowa Linn and Johnson counties. The State By Ways project was one of Rilling’s projects. Bernie Lowe was present to give a report of the Insurance account for Tama County. Lowe gave a general overview for the past year. This shows a total average employee enrollment for the 2014-2015 year as 120 and for the 2015-2016 plan, year to date of 121. Total paid claims after stop loss reimbursements were 28.2% higher that they were for the year previous of t he same period. The first quarter of 2014-15 shows medical claims of $220,245, Pharmacy $77,780 and for the first quarter of the 2015-16 $290,972 medical and $90,994 for pharmacy for the 28.2% increase. Large claims over $25,000 represent 20% of all paid claims for the 2015-16 plan year. Major cost drivers within the large claims are musculoskeletal claimants with 12.5% of all large claim dollars, all other categories represented 7.5 percent of all large claim dollars. Over the last four plan years, the plan has paid an average of 45.6% of the submitted claims. For the 2015-16 plan year to date, the plan has paid 35.6$% of submitted charges. The top three overall utilization cost drivers are Musculoskeletal (bones, muscles ,ligaments) at 12.4%, Obstetrical at 7.1% and Benign/Cancerous tumors at 6.4%, Prescription drugs at 23.8%. Spouse and dependent paid claims represents 43.6% of all paid claims. Spouses at 27.7% and Dependents at 15/9%. Spouses also accounted for 37.7$ of all large claim dollalrs over $25,000 The prescription drug plan paid 68.8% less per member per month in paid claims that did Wellmarks block of business. Alsi the Prescriptions per member per month was 11.9% higher Welllmark’s block of business. Claims were approved for $46,099.05.
