Message from Our Mayor

Photos by Betty Dahms Bridge over Wolf Creek, northwest of town, on C Avenue is open. This was a three million dollar project by Tama County.

Let’s start off by straightening out a mess I got into last month. When I said Annie Stocker bought the insurance business from Harold McKinney, I was wrong. Annie bought the building from Harold and RoseMary McKinney but she bought the insurance business from Priscilla Crumley who has run that business in Gladbrook for the last 25 years. I apologize for the mistake and thank Priscilla for her service to the Gladbrook Community for the last 25 years.

Keep an eye on Annie’s building as it is being remodeled inside and out. With Annie’s dad, Bud Grimmius, in charge of the carpenter work it will look great when done.

Also keep an eye on the restaurant as they are working on the roof and totally redoing the interior. Both businesses are a great improvement to the east end of Main Street.

There is also a brand new business starting up on the east end which will be known as Range Toys, owned by Mike and Barb DeWitt. More details to come but it will be great as all of Mike and Barb’s enterprises have been in the past. Keep up the good work in making Gladbrook Alive and Growing.

Also three nice homes have sold in Gladbrook in the last 30 days. Not bad for a town that was supposed to be dieing. We will be losing three very good families and they all will be missed but we are getting three new families in our town which is great. Best of luck to those who are leaving and Welcome to those who have chosen Gladbrook as a place to live and be a part of our community.

Up dates in and around Gladbrook the council is working on a new bridge on Grand St. which should be built in 2016. They are also working on the update to the city lagoon that is required by the DNR. This is over a million dollar project planned on being completed in 2016. Also, although not a city project but the bridge over Wolf Creek northwest of town on C Ave. is done. This was a three million dollar project done by Tama County. It was needed very much by those who farm north and west of Gladbrook.

We have several positions open and in need of volunteers in Gladbrook. First the Crayon Corner Day Care needs help watching our kids in the afternoon and help with people to ride the Crayon Corner bus to GMG every morning and back to Gladbrook in the afternoon. These positions don’t have to be every day. A day a week would be a great help. It takes about 45 minutes to one hour each time. Gladbrook will also be looking for a library director in the near future. Watch for ads on this as this is a paid position.

City election will be November 3. Both Trudi Scott and Scott Schmidt have taken out papers for reelection as well as myself. We all would appreciate your support. Also, on November 3 is the election night soup supper at the Methodist Church. So don’t forget to vote and come enjoy the food at the church.
