Tama Co. Supervisors

By Joyce Wiese Tama county supervisors Larry Vest, Kendall Jordan and Dan Anderson met with EMA (Emergency Management Director) Mindy Benson Monday morning. Benson presented a book on Hazard Mitigation Plans including all the Federal Rules. The book contains more than four hundred pages. Supervisors will read through the book this week and it will be back on the agenda next week for approval or disapproval. Benson said she had visited with all Tama County towns and school districts. Gladbrook-Reinbeck and North Benton school districts are not included as the schools are not in Tama County. The plan covers emergencies such as tornadoes, blizzards, floods, hot and cold conditions, etc.. Benson stated she felt the book was well planned and told supervisors she would like for their approval next week. Mary Hamilton, Traer, was appointed to the Veteran’s Affairs Commission to replace Harold Vorba from Traer. Hamilton will complete Vorba’s term. Lyle Brehm, County Engineer, presented two permit applications from Poweshiek Water Association for work to be done in Salt Creek and York townships. Supervisors approved modifying the farm lease. When the county property is contracted it is expected they use lime on the ground. Lime application is expected to last for five years. Supervisors modified the contract so that the lime application expense will be prorated over the five year period. If a contracted person applies lime and has a contract for two years, he will be reimbursed for 20 percent of the cost for each year the lime application left of the five years. Tami Wise was present and reported on the importance of an employee to report any workman compensation covered injury as quick as possible. Wise says it is extremely important these claims are reported promptly. Wise says there is three places they recommend for treatment, the doctor’s office, the new Urgent Care Center on t he South edge of Marshalltown and the Marshalltown Hospital. Claims approved for the past week came to $311,997.14.
