On September 21, 2015, the Garwin Volunteer Fire Department received a Hometown Challenge Grant Award from Alliant Energy for $1500.00. In order to qualify for the grant, the Fire Department had to hold two separate community fund raising events with the grant award matching up to $1500.00 of raised proceeds. Our Fire Department held two fish fry events during the Wednesday Entertainment in the Park social gatherings in June and August. Due to the generous support of our community, we raised over $3000.00 in net proceeds. Along with the matching Alliant Hometown Challenge Grant matching funds of $1500.00, our total fundraising efforts yielded $4500.00 we will use towards the purchase of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) units which cost approximately $7500.00 apiece. Our goal is to replace eight outdated SCBA units within the next year.
