Tama Co. Supervisors By: Joyce Wiese

Tama County Supervisors met Tuesday morning, September 8, instead of Monday, due to Labor Day falling on Monday. Larry Vest was absent. County Engineer Lyle Brehm gave a road report stating bridge work was progressing as well as the grading project east of the city of Vining. The grading project was to raise the road as it sets down from the banks and is almost impossible for a semi or grain truck to pull up to the stop sign and then proceed, consequently few people stopped for the stop sign, causing a hazard. A request from the Meskwaki Settlement to close 340th Street west of Highway 63 for a couple of hours on October 21st was discussed. Brehm told supervisors it would be a matter of putting up barricades on both ends of the route they are requesting using. This would be for a Youth Program Run from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Meskwaki would be responsible for setting up the barricades and taking them down returning them to the Engineers building, and was agreeable to those from the Meskwaki settlement present. Brehm said they would need a Resolution to this effect. Supervisors ok’d the project but it will not be final until the resolution is received and approved. Friday, September 11th has been set for the School Board Election canvas. This will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Board of Supervisors room. A Resolution was approved to set a public hearing to transfer county property in Traer to the city of Traer. The Resolution states the real estate in the City of Traer and County of Tama in the State of Iowa describe as Lot Seven except the East 12 feet and Lot Eight (B), Lot Nine, Lot Ten, Lot Eleven, Lot Twelve, Lot Thirteen, in Block Twelve in the city of Traer. The Board of Supervisors of Tama County desires to sell the above real estate for a purchase price of $1.00. Notice of time and place of hearing on this proposal to sell real estate shall be published per Iowa Code Section 331.305. Mindy from Emergency Management presented a book on flood risk in Tama County to the Board of Supervisors. This shows the flooding results in all parts of Tama County. Tami Wise was present and gave a report on the cost estimate for fiber-optics installation. Maintenance engineer Dirk Henle asked that they install two extra two inch pipes while doing this so there would be room for any expansion in the future without having to dig again. Wise will get this estimate before the work plan is finalized. Claims approved for payment for t he past week came to $43,761.23.
