Tama County Supervisors met Monday morning with Tama County Engineer Lyle Brehm for a weekly road report. Brehm says the bridge crew is moving out to work on a bridge near ELberon on X Avenue just north of Elberon. They will be replacing the piles. Work on the Columbia Stub road (340th Street) started last week. Contractor for this project is Manatt’s. They plan to start paving on Tuesday, May 12, weather permitting. This will involve milling the surface of the existing pavement and placing concrete over the existing pavement. Currently the road crew is blading roads and hauling rock to prepare for dust control. The county dust not place the dust control, but must have the road in good shape prior to the placement by the private vendors. Work continues on the bridge near Gladbrook on C Avenue near 170th Street over Wolf Creek. The piers have been done for some time. The abutments need to be constructed. A significant amount of grading has been completed making the site look much different than before. The spray crew is transitioning to placing chemicals along the shoulders of hard surfaced roads. Utility permits approved were for Windstream in Grant Township on K Avenue north of Highway D65 and Buckingham Township on R Avenue North of Highway D65. Permits for Alliant were in Tama Township on H Avenue north of Highway E49 and Spring Creek Township on C Avenue near 170th Street. The Board recently met with Tammy Wise, Human Resources, to discuss union contracts and health insurance updates. All new deductibles and employee contributions for union and non-union employees will begin July 1, 2015. An increase in the insurance rate to entities purchasing county health insurance to reflect the employee monthly contribution, the percentages being 3.998 for single coverage and 4.12 for family coverage. Approval was given to the Tama-Toledo Chamber of Commerce for use of the Courthouse lawn and bandstand. The renewal of the Substance contract between Covenant Hospital of Waterloo and the Central Point of Coordination was approved. Claims in the amount of $342,481.78 gained approval.
