Gladbrook-Reinbeck School Board votes to close Gladbrook Campus

The Gladbrook Campus of the Gladbrook-Reinbeck Community School District will close its doors before the beginning of the 2015-16 school year in vote 5 to 2 at the Gladbrook-Reinbeck CSD regular board meeting on Wednesday, February 25.

In a packed gymnasium on the Gladbrook Campus, citizens, parents, students, and teachers came to the Gladbrook-Reinbeck CSD Board of Education meeting on Wednesday evening, February 25, to hear the decision by the board to close an attendance center.

Visitors were given a chance at the beginning of the meeting to make a statement if they wished as to their feelings on closing either the Gladbrook Campus building or the Reinbeck Elementary building.

Discussion regarding school building closure and grade realignment proposals gave the board members a last chance to speak on the closure topic before the action item.

In a roll-call vote of 5 to 2, the G-R School Board voted to close the Gladbrook Campus, which houses Gladbrook Elementary and Gladbrook-Reinbeck Middle School. Grade realignment will be K-6 grades at the Reinbeck Elementary building and 7th through 12 grades at the Reinbeck High School. This will eliminate the Middle School concept.

The Gladbrook Campus will close before the beginning of the 2015-16 school year.
