Nanci Kay Parizek, 44, Vining, made an initial appearance before Tama County Magistrate Court Richard Vander Mey on Tuesday, Feb. 10 in connection with the alleged theft of over $29,000 in Vining city funds. Parizek was directed to be released to the supervision of the 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services. A preliminary hearing was set for Feb. 27. Parizek faces one count of 1st degree theft and five charges of felonious misconduct in office for allegedly taking $29,979 over a period of 2008-2014 while she was serving as the Vining City Clerk. The complaint states Parizek came to the Tama County Sheriff’s Office in Toledo on May 23, 2104, to turn herself in and admitted the theft. The charges were filed by Tama County Chief Deputy Sheriff Chad Hansen following a subsequent audit of Vining finances by the office of State Auditor Mary Mosiman.

Tama County District Court
Before Judge Fae Hoover-Grinde in Tama County District Court in Toledo: Ronald Alan Roop, 37, Grinnell, pleaded guilty to a charge of 4th degree theft and was assessed a fine and court costs totaling $779. He was also sentenced to 30 days in jail with credit for 30 days already served. Roop was accused of taking four Trio Stealth G Tablets from the Shopko Store in Toledo on July 19, 2014. The items are mobile computer devices. The charge was filed by Toledo Police Officer Andrea Young. Miguel Angel Salgado, 22, addresses of Toledo and unknown, pleaded guilty to 5th degree theft. He was sentenced to two days in jail with credit for two days already served and assessed court costs totaling $130. He also was directed to make victim restitution at an amount to later be determined. Salgado was charged on Jan. 15 with taking a camera in a deputy sheriff’s car while being he was being transported to the Tama County Jail in Toledo. Salgado had been taken into custody on a warrant. According to the criminal complaint, Salgado threw the camera under a booking room chair. An original charge of 4th degree theft was filed by Deputy sheriff Bryan Ellenbecker.
