Tama County Supervisors By:By John Speer Editor jspeer @tamatoledonews.com

Following the recommendation of the Tama County Compensation Board, the Board of Supervisors voted 3-0 to approve a three percent raise for elected officials on Monday, Jan. 12. The lone exception was the supervisors themselves, who approved only a two percent boost in pay for themselves. The pay of employees of elected officials is based upon a percentage of up to 85 percent of what the elected officials receive. The Compensation Board is made up of members representing each of the six county elected offices and is charged solely with making a pay recommendation annually. Supervisors can, by law, accept the overall recommendation or reduce it equally across all offices. They may only reduce their own pay in a percentage different than that of the other office holders. With three percent raises, Tama County office holders will be paid annually effective July 1: Auditor $52,640 Co. Attorney 78,588 Recorder 51,499 Treasurer 51,568 Sheriff 65,970 Two percent: Supervisors $27,893 A change coming up for county employees is with their health insurance coverage.
