Message From Our Mayor

Happy New Year to all! For the most part everything is going fine here in Gladbrook. So far there has been very little snow to move and no frozen water mains as of today, January 4, but it sound like we will get a bunch of snow and wind this week. Mark Lowry and David Smith will do their best to keep our streets open. Please make sure your cars and trucks are out of the streets and alleys or they will be towed. One of the first changes in our town was that the council has hired Barb DeWitt as an assistant to Lori at city hall. Barb will be working about 15 hours a week. This is a position that we have needed to be filled for a long time and Barb will be a great asset to Lori and the council. At our last city council meeting, Marcy Knaack told us that she was retiring after 28 years of reporting school and city council meetings. She will be missed by all as her reporting was always very accurate and timely. I personally have worked with Marcy as a mayor and a school board member and I know how great she was at doing her job. Thank you Marcy for a job well done. The new fire and ambulance building is coming along fine. Bud Grimmius and Larry Pieper are heading up the finish of the common area and with the help of some of the firemen, the stud walls are up. DeWitt Heating will be putting in the furnace and air conditioning soon as well as Trent Wentzien doing the plumbing. It is coming together fast! Hoping to have an open house in late February. There are some very important school board dates coming up in the near future in regard to the future of the Gladbrook site. Watch the school web site and local papers for dates, times and locations. Speak up now or live with what happens in the next year. Keith Sash, Mayor
