Tama Co. Supervisors By: Joyce Wiese

Les Koch, speaker for the Tama County Compensation Board met with the Tama County Board of supervisors Monday morning, December 22, reporting the recommendation of the board who met earlier this month. Koch says the board voted to recommend a three percent (3%) increase in wages for the coming year. Board members will decide at a later date what their decision will be. Susan Jones with the Engineers office presented two utility permits for approval. Windstream’s permit was for cable work on “K” Avenue north of Highway D65. Poweshiek Water had a permit approved for work in Columbia Township at the Harold Schuett residence. County Engineer Lyle Brehm told supervisors the road department has been working cutting brush. County Auditor Laura Kopsa asked supervisors to change their Time Sheet policy. Kopsa said when the books are audited they need copies of time cards. Some of the time is turned in without verifying the hours of each day reported for work. Kopsa says it is necessary to have time cards to verify hours for unemployment and insurance purposes. Jeff Heil, Marshalltown, was present to discuss the TIF levy, the levy needed if the TIF is used to pay for Roads or not, and the estimated rural consolidated tax. Heil will be back when they are discussing the budget for the coming year. Claims for the past week came to $77,465.08.
