Tama Co. Supervisors By: Joyce Wiese

Monday mornings meeting, December 15, revealed three bids for the ten acres of pasture land for rent. Chairman Dan Anderson opened the bids with these results. Bid No. 1 from Ryan and Susan Crain for $750 per year or $75.00 an acre, Bid No.2 from Annette Katouc for $1750 per year or $175. 00 an acre, and Bid No. 3 from Karen Murty for $2010 per year or $201.00 an acre. The lease will be for three years and supervisors voted unanimously to accept the third bid for $2010 per year or a total of $6030.00. Terry Johnson was present representing Genesis Company, giving an update on what is happening at Pheasant Ridge. He talked of the new program titled Discovery, which was started in June with just five individuals, and this number has now increased into the teens. Johnson said this plan is working well for both the individuals and their plan to house them in a homelike atmosphere. The Discovery program is to integrate clients with everyday life by having them associated with the trials and tribulations of everyday life. They volunteer at nursing homes, Heartland Dental, doing such things as watering gardens and flowers, filling bird feeders, meals on wheels, washing windows, volunteering at the senior center, etc. Discovery organized a program for collecting toys, with great success. They will be delivering the toys to families in need. Johnson stated the plan is to have all clients out of Pheasant Ridge within the next year to eighteen months. This is part of seven programs around the state which was initiated by the compliance to Disability Rights Act requirements. Johnson there is much cost and complications to do this. Supervisors stated their problem with this is the Pheasant Ridge building needs boiler repair. Dirk Henle, maintenance supervisor, stated it would probably cost near $70,000 to reline one of the boilers which is now seeping water. The other boiler does not work. Should they put this kind of money into the building, not knowing what they will use it for once Pheasant Ridge has moved its clients to Discovery. Supervisors debated what the building could be used for, and if or not they should maintain the building. In other business the supervisors drew names for the Clark Township Clerk and a Trustee. Names that had been on the ballot with a single vote were placed into a hat and Chairman Dan Anderson drew a name out of the hat for the Clerk, coming up with the name Sandy Dengler, and for trustee was Dale Degner. These people will be notified of this action, and hopefully will accept the position. Susan Jones told supervisors a contract for fuel for the coming year was completed. Jones says they had notified three companies for bids but only received one bid and that was from Century Farm for the same figures as last year which are cost plus .1393 cents for E87E10 gasoline, cost plus .1393 cents for #2 Diesel Fuel and cost plus .1493 for #1 Diesel Fuel. Supervisors approved the Insurance Flex Plan which costs $375.00 per year. Also, a Resolution was approved in support of Skilled Iowa National Readiness. This program offers an opportunity for individuals to take a test to rate their skills and knowledge in various areas and are then given a score in each of those areas along with a certificate that rates their skills and knowledge. This certificate can be given or shared with potential employers to help with hiring decisions. Supervisors stated they support the Skilled Iowa National Career Readiness and will take note of those certifications in their hiring decisions. Bruce Rhodes, Chelsea, was approved for appointment for medical examiner, as another person was needed for this position. Claims for the past week came to $332,752.18.
