Tama County Supervisors By: Joyce Wiese

Utility permits were approved by the Tama County Board of Supervisors Monday morning for Interstate Power to upgrade Cornbelt Service on “M” Avenue in Grant Township, and another permit for Northern Natural Gas along Highway E66 near Chelsea. Poweshiek Water’s utility permit is for work in Salt Creek Township, Section 28. A “Skilled Iowa National Career Readiness Certificate” was the topic of discussion among supervisors. This comes from Tama County Economic Development and Iowa Works. This would include people taking a skill text which in turn would allow them when applying for a job to have the results of the skill test on record. Providers feel this would better prepare those looking for a job and also furnish valuable information to the employer. No action was taken today, but most likely will be considered for next week. Susan Jones reported on premiums for Tama County’s Health Insurance. Jones says there will be an increase of five percent (5%) of internal premiums which would amount to $33.76 for a single person and $72.19 for a family per month and would go into effect July 1, 2015. Claims for the past week approved for payment came to $185,247.87.
