Message From Our Mayor

It is Sunday, November 30, and Jo is busy in the kitchen preparing Thanksgiving dinner for our family. We will have all of Craig’s and Stacey’s families here. That includes seven grandchildren – five of them are five years old and under. It will get wild! It’s great to have all of them within a 1 ? hour drive from us so we can see them often. Grandma gets to babysit quite often with a little of my help. She always comes home tired but happy. I hope all of you got to spend some time with your family and everyone has a safe trip home. Just remember, Christmas is coming. We will see them soon! We all have so much to be thankful for with family and friends to see this time of the year. How about the Rebel football team? What a year! State runner up in the Class A Championship game. Congratulations to all the young men on your journey to the top. You have given all of us a very exciting year and have accomplished something we will all remember for a very long time. Congratulations especially to those of you who have been selected to the All State and Regional teams. Great job and a great year! Le me also lead all of the Rebel fans in both Gladbrook and Reinbeck in thanks to the six Rebel senior girls in the outstanding performance of the National Anthem at the opening game in the UNI Dome. That was beautiful and once again the Rebel fans couldn’t have been prouder. Thank you for sharing your talent and honoring your country, community and your fans with your talents. I’m also thankful that this week we received a $15,000 grant from Black Hawk gaming to be used in the purchase of a stand by generator at the new Fire and Ambulance building. Along with this, the contractors are pretty much done with the building. We will be doing the final walk through this week. Some of the finishing touches will have to wait until spring because of the early freeze up. The inside finishing of the training room, restrooms and office will be finished under the capable hands of Burnell Grimmius and Larry Pieper along with the help of other volunteers including the firemen and Darrell Paustian. For those of you readers outside the area, you can see we have a lot to be thankful for including our families, the Rebels, EMS building and this area also had a very good harvest with excellent yields and a safe harvest. Hope all of you enjoyed the Thanksgiving weekend.
