Garwin Library celebrates 1st anniversary

Luke Wrage is pictured assisting a customer with a computer question. Luke joined the Garwin Library staff this fall and is the “go to man” for the eight public computers at the Library.

The Garwin Public Library recently celebrated the first anniversary in the new location.

According to Librarian Lola Sllingluff, “We had 530 people visit the Library in October and have been averaging well over 500 persons each month. At the former location we averaged about 300.”

The road to re-locating in the former St. Boniface Social Center began in 2013 with generous donations from community members.

Jill Roberts makes “Jills Dills” and donates the proceeds to the Saturday Kids Program. The Coffee Ladies meet at the Library twice a week and their donations have brought in nearly $500. Those monies have purchased items such as a V-Tech Computer, bicycle rack, foam chairs for the teens, twenty new DVD’s and other miscellaneous items.

In addition to Librarian Lola Slingluff, Luke Wrage has been hired part-time to serve as the computer tech person for the eight public computers. Luke is very knowledgeable and will gladly assist with computer questions.

The newly designed Teen Section features comfy bean bags and teen books close at hand. The gals pictured are enjoying a game.

The Library provides a very inviting setting for all ages. Next to the kitchen in the far back right is a long table and chairs for coffee time. To the left is the computer area with ample space for a large group to access the computers.

A “Teen Center” is located in the middle of the facility and features comfy red bean bags and a table to accommodate the playing of board games. A section with chairs is ready for the Saturday morning movie – complete with popcorn! And to the south front is the section for the younger children, complete with little chairs and tables.

A recent renovation was the installation of a new entry door. Directly inside is the Librarians desk, a low table and coat racks for the children. And of course there are rows and rows of wonderful books just waiting to be read and enjoyed.

Lola says, “We are forever grateful to the people of our community, who, from the goodness of their hearts keep the library growing with their donations.”
