Tama Co. Supervisors By: Joyce Wiese

Monday morning, November 10, County Engineer Lyle Brehm met with Tama County Supervisors and Toledo mayor Dave Svoboda to discuss repair of a culvert on “K” Avenue on the east edge of Toledo. Svoboda asked who was responsible for the replacement of the culvert. Brehm says the normal procedure of work to be done when a road is on the line of two different entities, is to share the expense. K Avenue divides the City of Toledo and Tama County. Supervisors agreed to work with the City of Toledo and would allow Brehm to handle the repairs. Brehm will handle the repair and then bill the City of Toledo for their share of the expense. Last week Mindy Benson, 911 and EMA Director discussed the purchase of equipment for 911. They were needing to purchase new dispatch consoles, radios and phones for their department. The current ones date back to the 1990’s. The total cost of the new equipment would come to $335,000 and they have received a grant for $100,000 for the project. Benson told supervisors they had a large carryover balance that would cover the rest of the costs and would not incur any interest or fees as they would if they would go with a lease on the equipment. Supervisors gave approval to go ahead with the purchase. A permit was approved for Central Iowa Water to install a water main in Sections 17 and 18 in Indian Villlage Township on B Avenue. The contract for work on the Columbia Stub road, 340th Street, for PC paving to be done was signed, work to be done next spring. Claims were approved for payment in the amount of $132,259.38.
