Message From Our Mayor

Fall is here and all the tree leaves are everywhere. Thanks to all who are trying to clean them up. With all the wind, that is not an easy job. Harvest is going well and most of the surrounding farmers are wrapping up their harvest. It has been a good year! I have done my annual fall trip through all of our alleys looking for junk cars and trash and I’m very happy to report that I’m not going to send out any notices. If I missed any spot, please call me. Thank you to everyone for your help in keeping our town clean. How about the GR Rebel football team? As I am writing this letter on November 9th, the Rebels have qualified for the semi finals. On Friday, November 14 at 10:06AM, they will be playing at the UNI Dome. A win there will put them into the Championship game. These young men have been fun to watch and we all wish them the best of luck Friday. I will be there and I know that there will be a large GR Rebel cheering section there also. Go Rebels! The Gladbrook Fire and Ambulance building is close to being done. At this time the building is complete with the exception of one small cement pouring and a final wash down of the building inside and out. What a nice improvement for our town. The fire and ambulance people still need help in finishing the meeting/training room, offices and restrooms. They have area volunteers for the labor but still need some money. If you can help, please let me or city hall know. As I wrote a couple of weeks ago, we have started meeting with the GR school appointed committee on which building to close, either the Reinbeck elementary or the Gladbrook school. Following is a list of meeting dates that the committee will meet on. All meetings are open to the public and will alternate between Reinbeck and Gladbrook sites. Keep yourself informed, attend these meetings, talk to the school board about your thoughts. This is not an easy decision for either community or the school board to make. Please be respectful to both. I’ll try to keep you informed. Just ask! Following are the dates, times and locations of the meetings. November 12 6:30 to 8:30 High School Media Center November 23 5:30 to 7:30 Gladbrook Campus Board Room December 3 6:30 to 8:30 High School Media Center December 10 6:30 to 8:30 Gladbrook Campus Board Room Jan. 4(if needed) 5:30 to 7:30 High school Media Center Jan. 7(if needed) 6:30 to 8:30 Gladbrook Campus Board Room
