Keith “Scooter” Sherman

Keith “Cooter” Sherman, 67, of Lincoln, Iowa passed away Monday, September 1, 2025, at Parkview Manor in Reinbeck, Iowa after a short battle with brain cancer. The family will hold a celebration of life Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 1-4 pm at the Youth Center at Union Grove State Park aka “Gladbrook Lake” south of Gladbrook, Iowa.
Keith Allen Sherman was born May 18, 1958, in Marshalltown, Iowa to his parents Robert and Pauline (Reisner) Sherman, of Lincoln, Iowa. Keith grew up in Lincoln and graduated from Gladbrook Community School in Gladbrook. Keith also graduated from Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo in Auto Body Repair.
Through the years Keith had a wide variety of jobs. He worked as a hired hand for Richard Ellis, assembled grain bins for Gary Ellis, and worked for a well drilling company. Keith did body work at Twin City Ford in Toledo and helped Tom Degner with body work at his shop. He worked at Lynk’s Seed in Marshalltown, Traer Manufacturing in Traer. A park attendant at Union Grove State Park, worked at Barry’s Auto Parks, Cedar Valley Construction and landed back at his second home Union Grove State Park until he retired.
On September 18, 1989, Keith married Brenda (Degner) Albertsen. The couple had two sons, Anton Tomash and Dylan Sherman. They made their home in Gladbrook and then at Union Grove State Park in the ranger’s house. The couple divorced in 1996. Keith moved to Gladbrook and later went back to his childhood home in Lincoln.
When asked to list his favorites it was a long list: Ford vehicle’s, Big Band music, old time rock & roll, vintage radios, Humphrey Bogart, gravel travel, the great outdoors, trucks, tractors, trains and time with his family & friends.
Keith was proceeded in death by his parents Robert and Pauline Sherman; 2 sisters Mary Freese and Carole Storjohann; 1 brother Robert Jr. and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Keith is survived by his sons Dylan Sherman and Anton (Samantha Slick, Greenlee, Paytynn, Aiden) Tomash; sister Judy Fink; close friend Denise Zink; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; great great nieces and nephews along with many more family and friends.
