Taryn “Tia” Hollatz

Taryn “Tia” Hollatz, age 67, of Garwin, Iowa, passed away in the comfort of her own home on the morning of May 9, 2025.

Per Tia’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and no formal services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to her family for a later designation. Taryn Joy Coulter was born in New York on February 6, 1958. She was the daughter of Lloyd and Marilyn (Madden) Coulter. She grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa along with three siblings. Tia later would graduate high school in 1976.

Tia had one son, James Bierly and she relocated from Council Bluffs to the East side of Des Moines, Iowa. In 1993, she was united in marriage to Donn Hollatz. They eventually moved in the early 2000’s to Garwin, Iowa. Tia spent a lot of her time caring for her family as well as taking many volunteer positions at various events and primarily the Garwin Public Library. In her free time, Tia was known to be a bookworm and loved to read a good book or two. She was also fond of spending time in the kitchen whether that was cooking or baking up delicious goods. In her younger years, Tia enjoyed traveling with Donn and listening to music along the way. They frequently went on trips to Columbia, Missouri yearly and took their ATV with and blazed the backroad trails they could find.

Those left to cherish and remember her memory are her son, James (Kieran) Bierly; four grandchildren, Landen, Zayden, Raven, and Jae Bierly; her parents, Lloyd Coulter and Marilyn Madden; three siblings Gina Coulter, Joy (Brenda) Dalen and Mark; alongside numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donn Hollatz.
