Steven McHenry
Steven (Mac) Grant McHenry, Sr. (73), of Gladbrook, IA, passed away in his home on October 30th, 2024.
He was born to Rex and Betty (White) McHenry on February 16, 1951, in Red Oak, IA. In 1969 he graduated high school in Lewiston, NE. After graduation, Steven Joined the United States Marine Corps and served from 1969-1977. During this time, he served in Vietnam.
From 1977-1982 he farmed while remaining in the National Guard. From 1982-1989 Steven was a Platoon Sergeant in the United States Army but remained in the National Guard until 1993.
He was employed as the Operations Manager at Roberts & Dybdahl from 1989-2003, and then he worked for Target Corp in Cedar Falls, IA from 2003 until he retired in 2013. Although retired, Steven continued to work and farm for his good friend Karl Strohbehn and his family, with Strohbehn Farms in Reinbeck, IA for roughly 20 years.
In 1976 Steven was united in marriage to Nancy Candice Wood. From this marriage his eldest Son, Steven G McHenry, Jr. was born. This union ended in 1980.
In 1988, Steven was united in marriage to Lori Dee Pearson, with her 5-year-old son, Nicholas (Nick) Capazo, Steven’s bonus son. Together, they had three more sons, Jacob, Caleb and Ethen. You read that right. 5 boy’s total. This union ended in 2005.
Steven was a hard worker. You would often find him working to support his family, however he also made time to be actively involved in Cub Scouts with his boys, and he enjoyed taking them fishing. He also found time to go on a few mission trips with his church to build houses for those in need.
He was a part of the American Legion, Action Post #242 out of Reinbeck, IA, for much of his life, up until his death. He was very proud to be a Veteran and would gladly carry the American Flag in the 4th of July Parade each year.
You could often find him listening to Nebraska Huskers Football or a NASCAR race. He was a long-time John Wayne fan and enjoyed Star Trek.
Steven remained a Bachelor, but you would always find him with a faithful Lab by his side.
He is preceded in death by his father, Rex McHenry, his mother, Betty (White) McHenry, his brothers Sidney, Owen, and Alan McHenry, and his former wife, Nancy (Wood) North.
He is survived by his sons: Steven (Amy) McHenry, Jr. of McKinney, TX, Nicholas (Brittany) Capazo of Russellville, MO, Jacob (Melanie) McHenry, of Eldon, MO, Caleb (Alannah) McHenry of Gladbrook, IA and Ethen McHenry of Eldon, MO. His sisters; Irene (McHenry) Light of Ontario, OH, Janice (McHenry) Washok and husband John of Jacksonville, AR, Kristi McHenry of Beatrice, NE; brothers James McHenry of AR and Dean McHenry of Burchard, NE; many Grandchildren, one Great Grandchild and countless nieces and nephews.
A service is not being held at this time. One will be put on by the family at a later date.
