Ray Landt

Ray Landt, 100, of Grinnell, IA, formerly of Gladbrook, IA, passed away Monday, December 25, 2023, at Windsor Manor in Grinnell. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 29, 2023, at Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook. Interment followed at Maple Hill Cemetery in rural Gladbrook and a luncheon followed the burial at the church. Anderson Funeral Homes of Gladbrook was entrusted with the arrangements. Ray was born July 4, 1923, to Gus and Ila (Rosenberger) Landt in Gladbrook where he lived most of his life. He enlisted in the United States Navy in August of 1942, serving during WWII. Ray proudly received a Good Conduct Medal during his time of service. Ray married Dorothy Pappas in 1946 and the two welcomed five children. He spent most of his work years as a Construction Supervisor for Gethmann Construction in Gladbrook. Ray was the Superintendent of Job Sites until retirement in 2006. Ray was a devoted member of the Legion Auxiliary, Post 127 American Legion, Gladbrook Inc. Co and Man Cave. Ray enjoyed any time spent with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He often would tell them, “Don’t do what I do, do what I say!”.

Ray will be missed by his children: Ellen (Phil) Skelley, of Lee’s Summit, MO, Michael (Ronda) Landt, of Zimmerman, MN, Joe Landt, of Gladbrook, Rodney (Terri) Landt, of Marshalltown, IA, and Ila (David) Willis, of Grinnell, 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his parents and a sister, Marjorie Mugge.

Ray’s grandson, Chad, will be the officiant for the services and requested everyone in attendance to honor Ray by wearing plaid/flannel shirts.
