Lois J. Bern, 102

Lois J. Bern, 102, of Reinbeck, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Parkview Nursing Home in Reinbeck.

Lois was born August 28, 1921, in Grundy County, to Alva and Ferne Heltibridle. She graduated from Grundy Center High School. She married Noel C. Bern on July 6, 1944, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Noel passed away August 11, 1983.

Lois spent many years of her working life employed at the Reinbeck Canning Company, a local flower shop and was also the owner and operator of the UpTown Restaurant in Reinbeck. Lois mostly enjoyed time spent with her family and friends. Lois was blessed by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, which brought joy to her life. She loved sports and spent many hours cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes, Iowa State Cyclones and the Chicago Cubs. Lois always had a humble and gracious way about her but was always there for family and friends. She is loved and will be missed by us all.

She was a member of the UCC Church in Reinbeck, Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by 2 sons, Craig (Mary) Bern and Dennis (Mary) Bern; 4 grandchildren: Annissa (Chris) Idol, Blake (Heather) Bern, Waylon (Michelle) Bern and Jason Hasenbank; 7 great grandchildren: Ehart, Axel, & Jack Bern, Bost & Elise Bern, and Anothy & Charlsie Idol; 1 great-great grandchild, Harper Idol; and 3 nieces: Ann Skinner, Diane Nowell and Barbara Jo Hamblin.

Lois was preceded in death by her mother and father, Alva and Ferne Heltibridle, husband Noel C. Bern, 2 brothers, Ralph & Glen Heltibridle, and 3 sisters: Margaret Skinner, Helen Thompson and Mary Haskell.

A celebration of life for friends and family will be held at Abels Funeral & Cremation Service in Reinbeck on Saturday, October 21. 2023. Visitation will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A short memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. A burial will follow the service at Reinbeck Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or Parkview Manor Nursing Home.
