Marcella Goos, 91

Marcella Goos, 91, of Afton, died peacefully Saturday, July 22, 2023, at the Creston Specialty Care in Creston. A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Gladbrook, Iowa. LaCosta Van Dyk will officiate the service. A lunch will follow at the Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Afton Community Center or the Afton United Methodist Church. Marcella Joyce Wrage Goos, daughter of Dave and Pauline (Paustian) Wrage, was born September 14, 1931, in rural Gladbrook, Iowa. Marcella graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1949.

On December 27, 1950, Marcella married the love of her life, Clair Alva Goos in Gladbrook, Iowa. Marcella joined Clair as he served in the US Air Force until they settled in Gladbrook in 1954.

Marcella was a supporting and loving wife and mother but also worked as a banker in several different banks last of which was Hills Bank and Trust, Hills, Iowa. Marcella followed Clair to many locations as he worked in the seed corn industry. They moved and worked in Brazil, Florida, Pella, Grinnell, Lone Tree and Eldora and then finally retiring in 1997 to Afton, Iowa, moving closer to their daughter.

Marcella was active with senior meals in Afton and was a member of the Afton United Methodist Church.

Marcella is survived by her son, Kirby Goos, daughter Michelle ÒShelleyÔ (Randy) Hardisty, all of Afton; sister-in-law Norma Wrage, Newton; Alice Conder, Thornton, CO; Patricia Goos, Marshalltown and MaryLee Goos, Narragansett, RI; five grandchildren: Heather Vander Heiden, Pella; Dustyn (Molly) Goos Menninga, Des Moines; LaCosta (Jeremy) Van Dyk, Pella; Drew (Suzy) Hardisty and Taylor (Alex) Pettit, both of Afton, and twenty great grandchildren.

Marcella was preceded in death by her husband, Clair Goos in 2014; parents and parent-in-laws, brothers: Arlo Wrage, Lyle (Marlys) Wrage; Leon (Gloria) Wrage; Roger Wrage; sisters: Arvella (Earl) Rogers, Marlys (Arnold) Siemens; Lorna (Otto Jensen and Roger Bieber) LaRue (Dean Warren, Glen Oetker and David Brandemuehl).
