On June 19, 1925, at the family home in Crystal Township of rural Garwin, Iowa, Alfred and Olinda (Clausen) Luethje welcomed their baby girl, June Louise to the world. She went to Crystal #9 Country School and graduated from Traer High School in 1942. She was united in marriage to Marvin Johannsen, on September 2, 1942, in Bethany, Missouri. Hardworking and dedicated, June was a wonderful wife, mother and helped around on the farm. She enjoyed family fishing trips to Minnesota. June and Marvin were together 43 years before his sudden passing in 1985. She continued to live on the farm while her sons continued the family legacy.

Her kids, grandchildren and Goddaughter were very important to her and they loved her famously thin pancakes. She was a member of Peace Church, where she served on the church board and was involved with the afternoon women’s fellowship. She was also a part of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Gladbrook Women’s Club. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, bowling, Dominos and playing cards, especially Pepper. June was also a die-hard Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. She enjoyed sharing goodies, coffee and great conversation. June had a zest for life and loved traveling, having visited The Holy Land and England. From 1986 to 2017, she wintered in Arizona, where she made many good friends over the years. In 2017, she moved into Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook, and she thoroughly enjoyed her time there. June’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the wonderful years of care and love they received from the staff at Westbrook Acres, as well as Hospice Compassus for making her journey home comfortable.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Joyce (Stephen) Hutcheson, of Garwin; daughter-in-law, Sandra Johannsen, of Gladbrook; seven grandchildren: Michele (Joey) Wegner, Jill (Brian) Dilly, John (Jodi) Johannsen, Amy (Pat) White, Jacob (Kelle) Johannsen, Bryce (Julie) Hutcheson and Brant Hutcheson; twelve great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; and her Goddaughter, Lori Sanderson, who cherished all their time together.

In eternal life, June is reunited with her beloved husband, Marvin; her two sons, Bruce and Keith Johannsen; daughter-in-law, Bonita Johannsen; her parents, Alfred and Olinda Luethje and her father and mother-in-law, Hannes and Elsie Johannsen.
