Leonard A. Plaehn, 91

Leonard A. Plaehn, 91, of Spring Valley, Minn., died Monday April 24, 2023, at Spring Valley Living.

He was born December 18, 1931, to Emma and Henry Plaehn; He was their tenth child. Leonard lived on farms in Grundy County, Iowa, until WWII when his older brothers left for the service and the family moved to Reinbeck, Iowa. He attended school there and graduated in 1949. Leonard worked on farms until joining the Navy in 1951 and served until 1955.

On December 27, 1955, Leonard was united in marriage to Beverly Jean Kain. They were blessed with three sons and a daughter. Together they farmed for a few years until Leonard went to work for Amaco Oil Fertilizer business and managed the Amoco Oil Terminal in Spring Valley, until retiring in 1988.

Leonard enjoyed playing golf and watching high school, college and professional sports. He especially enjoyed watching his children and grandsons play sports. Leonard played basketball during his younger days and continued to play during his time in the Navy. He also liked to play cards and read, and gardening.

Leonard is survived by his wife Beverly, sons Timothy, Terry Paul (Dawn) and Douglas (Michelle), and a daughter, Kristy (Kurt) Raihn; grandsons Mitchell (Sami) Plaehn and Marcus (Maddie) Plaehn, granddaughters Jennaka Raihn and Tiana Raihn, and a great-grandson, Wyatt Plaehn. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Phyllis Bierle, Darlene Plaehn and Charlene Kain; and brother-in-law James (Irene) Kain.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Harold, Earl, Charles and Paul Kenneth; sisters Beulah, Lois, Alta and Bernice; and brothers-in-law John M. Kain and Thomas H. Kain.

Committal service will be 11 a.m. Monday. May 1, 2023, at the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery in Preston, Minn. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, April 30 at the Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley. Condolences may be left at www.Hindtfuneralhomes.com.
