Ferne Schoel, 92

Ferne Schoel, 92, of Gladbrook, IA, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook. Visitation will take place 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Interment will follow at Maple Hill in rural Gladbrook. Anderson Funeral Homes of Gladbrook has been entrusted with the arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com.

Ferne was born March 9, 1931, to Harry and Florence (Schultz) Lage in rural Tama County. She attended and graduated from Gladbrook High School, and made her lifetime home in Gladbrook. Ferne married John Schoel in 1948 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA, and together they had four children. Although taking care of her family and home was her first priority, she also worked part time bookkeeping for Mohr’s Garage and Carl’s Electric. She was a woman of many talents, including cooking, baking and an excellent seamstress. Ferne also loved gardening and reading in her free time. She was a part of the American Legion Auxiliary for 70 plus years, and a member of Peace United Church of Christ all of her adult life. Above all, Ferne loved being with her family.

Ferne will be missed by three children; Timothy (Judy) Schoel, Dave (Kim) Schoel and Barry Schoel, two grandchildren, Katy (Matt) Watson and Joanna (James) Holmes, two great grandchildren, Jameson and Janey Holmes, and one sister, Gloria Hardon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, one daughter, Robin Schoel, and one brother-in-law, Ed Hardon.
