Shirley (Roger) Lewis, 90, longtime Garwin area resident, passed from this earthly life on the morning of Saturday, February 18th, 2023, at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad, where she has resided since September of 2021.

Born Shirley Swenson on October 22nd, 1932, at her aunt’s home in Marshalltown, Iowa, she was the daughter of Gilbert and Jennie (Seim) Swenson. She received her education in the LeGrand Public School.

On October 21st, 1950, with eight people in attendance, she was married to the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Roger Lewis, at the Little Brown Church, preceded by a picnic out front of the church. They made their home in the Garwin and LeGrand communities all of their married lives. She was a dedicated and loving homemaker, wife and mother.

Shirley and Roger were faithful members of the LeGrand Friends Church. In her free time, Shirley enjoyed cooking (especially her famous chicken, noodles and dumplings), bird-watching and playing cards. She had the gift of hospitality and loved hosting and decorating her home for the holidays. Shirley loved rocking and singing to babies and more than anything else, enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up.

Left to cherish her memory is Roger, her loving husband of 72 years; children: Micheal (Sue) Lewis, of LeGrand, Terry (Wendy) Lewis, of Newton, and LeAnn (Dale) Wilkerson, of Garwin; ten grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

In eternal life, Shirley has rejoined her parents, her brother Don Swenson and sister-in-law Shirley and her sister Janice Wood and brother-in-law Gary.
