Merlyn E. Eggers, 92

Merlyn E. Eggers, 92, of Gladbrook, IA, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook. Visitation was 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 16, 2023, at Peace United Church of Christ. Interment will take place at Crystal Cemetery. Merlyn was born November 14, 1930, to Arnold and Martha (Busch) Eggers at his home in Gladbrook. He was one of seven children. Merlyn was born and raised in Gladbrook and graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1949. Through high school, he worked at The Mustard Factory and The Central Iowa Bean Mill. Merlyn married the love of his life, Marilyn, on November 6, 1949, at Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook. He began his farming career helping his father-in-law. Merlyn and Marilyn were blessed with four children; Mark, Marla, Monte and Matthew. Merlyn spent his entire life farming and was fortunate to have Monte help farm and continue his legacy. Merlyn helped on the farm until a couple years ago at the age of 90. He was a lifelong Hawkeye fan, but he truly only had one hobby being a dedicated farmer.

Merlyn will be dearly missed by his wife, Marilyn, of 73 years, four children: Mark Eggers, Marla (Pete Schomaker) Eggers, Monte (Melinda) Eggers, Matthew Eggers, three grandchildren: Barry (Cynthia) Eggers, Tammy Ellis, and Madisyn Eggers, four great grandchildren: Amber, Megan, Justina, Trey; three great-great grandchildren: Alayna, Carson, Easton; two siblings, Allen Eggers and Joette (Bobby) Thomas, one sister-in-law, Lois Eggers, and his best four-legged friend, Molly.

He was preceded in death by four siblings; Harold Eggers, Delores (Howard) Casebolt, Roger Eggers and Lynn Eggers.
