Evelyn Anna (Kupka) Caloud

Evelyn Anna (Kupka) Caloud, 96, passed away Friday evening, August 19, 2022, at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer, Iowa. Evelyn was born May 15, 1926, on the family farm west of Clutier to Fred and Frances (Parizek) Kupka.

Evelyn graduated from Toledo High School and on February 18, 1947, she married Norbert J. Caloud. They farmed one mile east of Clutier where Evelyn helped with the farm and raised four children. Evelyn also taught country school west of Clutier. Evelyn drove school bus for the North Tama Community School for 27 years and retired in 1991 but still continued to substitute. The students on the bus called her Grandma and many of them still remembered her from driving their school bus.

Evelyn was a member of the Clutier Community Church and was a paid-up-for-life member of the Hora-Machacek Unit #453 of the American Legion Auxiliary where she served as Unit President, Tama County President and Third District President. She and Norbert volunteered many years at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Survivors include her daughters, Barbara (Ace) Perry, of Cedar Rapids, Becky (Richard) Forster, of Fancy Gap, VA and Mary Drake (Carl Linden), of Conrad, daughter-in-law, Diane Caloud, of Clutier; seven grandchildren: Leo and Tina Caloud, Jason and James Perry, Amanda Pitagno, Jody Pignatiello and Jacob Harrington; thirteen great grandchildren: Holden Caloud, Caitlin and Mackenzie Lynch, Hannah, Sam, Faith and Lydia Perry, Nicolas and Julianna Pitagno, Graceyn and Kylie Pignatiello, Tayler and Paige Harrington.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her son Robert, her parents, her brothers: Anton, William, and Alferd, and her sisters, Pauline in infancy and Alice Zimple.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 29, at 10:30 a.m. at the Clutier Community Church. Visitation will be at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama, on Sunday, August 28, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. where the family will be present to greet her guests. Evelyn will be laid to rest next to her husband at National Cemetery, rural Vining, Iowa, following the funeral service.

Memorials will be designated at a later date by the family.
