Merlin “Dale” Osten, 95

Merlin “Dale” Osten, 95, of Gladbrook, IA, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 1, 2022, at Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m., until the time of the service. Dale was born December 31, 1926, in Baxter, IA, to Walter and Myrtle (Wilsterman) Osten. He graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1945. Dale served his country in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Leona Holl on June 16, 1951, in Beaman, IA. He worked construction and was the co-owner/operator of Crumrine & Osten Builders for many years. He was an active member of Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook, where he also served on the board. He was also a member of the Gladbrook American Legion, past president and board member for Gladbrook Community School District, volunteer fireman for Gladbrook Fire Department, member of Eastern Star & Masonic Lodge and El Kahir Shrine. Dale loved spending time with his family, and his vintage automobile club.

Dale will be missed by his loving wife of 71 years, Leona, two daughters; Chris (Dave) Hickman, of Gladbrook, Cathy (Paul) Chancellor, of Sedalia, MO, six grandchildren: Lindsay (Roger) Elmore, Wendy (Jason) Street, David (Constance) Hickman, Cris Miller, Cindy (Mark) Scholl, Natalie (Kevin) Ficken and thirteen great grandchildren.

Dale was proceeded in death by a sister, Majel Eilers and a sister in infancy, Naomi Osten.
