Mavis Nelson

Mavis Nelson, 94 of Gladbrook, IA passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad, IA. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2022 at the Gladbrook United Methodist Church in Gladbrook. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m., until the time of the service. Mavis was born April 12, 1927 in Whitten, IA to Floyd and Lois (Starr) Bartholomew. Mavis graduated from Conrad High School with the class of 1944. Mavis was a member of the United Methodist Church of Gladbrook, The United Methodist Women, Sunday School Teacher and the church secretary for 15 years. She was a member of Gladbrook American Legion Auxiliary since 1947. Mavis was involved with brownies, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts and a member of the Royal Neighbors of America since 1947, order of Eastern Star and an election official for many years. George and Mavis enjoyed camping in the summer and wintering in Arizona for many years.

Mavis married George M. Nelson May 18, 1945, and were proud parents of four children, Beverly (Allan) Goodknight, Craig Nelson, Kirk (Reina) Nelson and Gena Nelson. They have eight grandchildren, Brian Meister, Bradley (Shaela) Meister, Nate (Sherylynn) Nelson, Heather Borton, Carrie Luckau Nelson, Sarita Roby, Joshua Roby, and Courtney Roby as well as 16 great grandchildren, Austine, Jordan, Brandon, Kyler, Kael, Damon, Taylor, TreyShawn, Daviontay, Brayden, Dakota, Gretchen, Mason, Kaylee, Nevaeh and Nylah and one great-great granddaughter, Eloise. Mavis also has one sister-in-law, Shirley Bartholomew and several nieces and nephews. Mavis was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, George, sister, Eleanor Robb, brother, Ernest Bartholomew, sister-in-law Miriam Nelson, brother-in-law Lee Nelson and brother-in-law Gene Robb.
