Richard Eugene Slingluff

Richard (Dick) Slingluff, 69, of Garwin died peacefully in his home on Saturday, April 10th. His last day was spent surrounded by his loving family.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 12 pm – 3 pm Saturday April 24th, at the Garwin Community Building in the Park. This will be an open house with food provided.

Dick was born on July 11th, 1951, the first son of Richard and Waneta (Hofer) Slingluff. He graduated from Marshalltown high school. Dick married the love of his life, Lola, in 1969.

Dick started his long career at Lennox Industries the summer of 1969 working as a machine operator, then, like his father, he became a welder for many years. Dick was a quiet man until he had a beer with friends at the Out Post, then he was the life of the party.

He enjoyed bowling leagues and dart leagues, but his children were the light of his life. Boating, hunting and vacationing. He taught them to ski and hunt safely as he could. He taught his children his carpenter skills also, which saved everyone a lot of money.

Dick suffered a rare virus, HSE, in 2011 and retired after 36 years. He stayed with his family and got to enjoy watching children grow and new ones be born for 10 years that the doctors never thought would be possible.

Surviving is his devoted wife Lola; his loving children Amy (Randy) Wrage,Union Grove Lake, Keith (Deana Hook) Slingluff, Garwin and Sam (Amy) Slingluff, Marion. Also his six grand-children Jake (Alley) Wrage, Luke Wrage, Dillon (Abbey) Slingluff, Megan (D.J) Slingluff, Alex and Addison Slingluff. Also surviving are five great-grand-children, siblings Diane (Bob) Eash, Kenny Slingluff, and Gene (LuAnn) Slingluff. Dick was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Waneta Slingluff.
