Lynn H. Steiert, 88, of Gladbrook, IA passed away Sunday, August 16, 2020 at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook. Public graveside will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at Crystal Cemetery in Rural Gladbrook. Memorials Will be donated to the All Veterans Memorial Park in Gladbrook and may be sent to Lynn Steiert Memorial, 1674 Hwy. 96, Gladbrook, IA 50635. Lynn was born on December 25, 1931, to John & Alfreda (Carstensen) Steiert in Gladbrook. He graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1950. Lynn worked on the family farm until entering the US Army during the Korean Conflict. After returning home, he worked on the farm, as well as painting and landscaping for others. Lynn loved watching and studying the weather. He kept track of the precipitation that fell on Gladbrook and reported it to the Northern-Sun Print. Lynn was a 56 year member of the Gladbrook Ehrig-McTurk American Legion Post 127. He was the Post Commander in 1976 – 1977, and the Tama County Commander in 1979 – 1980. Lynn enjoyed being part of the Legion Colorguard, and held the office of Chaplain for many years. Lynn was very patriotic and donated the flag pole and flags for Eastbrook Apartments where he resided before moving into the Independent Living and eventually Westbrook Acres. Throughout his years he was also a member of the Peace United Church of Christ.
Lynn is survived by his brother, Delmer of Davenport, IA, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lorna.
