Obituary-Roger Lee Hiatt
Roger Lee Hiatt passed away at his home in Pittsburg, Missouri, on February 17, 2016. He was the youngest son of Paul Elmer Hiatt and Wilma Gene (Brown) (Hiatt) Eacret, born on April 13, 1940 in Appanoose County, Iowa. He was raised in Madrid, Nevada, and Ames, Iowa. Left to cherish his memory; his wife of 27 years, Marilyn; brother Larry (Shirley) Hiatt; uncle Duane (Betty) Brown, sister and brother in-laws: Cindy (Dan) Bonnes, Laurie (Mark) Curtin, Deanna (Joe) Nelson , Butch (Leah) Johnson, Rodney (Deb) Johnson; children Katie (Ron) Braasch, Mark (Deanna) Hiatt, Steve (Suzanne) Hiatt, Kelly Hiatt, Jerry (Tia) Hiatt, Rose Anne Riggs , Brenda Robison, Tam (Randy) Oettchen, Deb (Dave) Eickholt; daughter in-law Sherri Hiatt; 27 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Paul Dean Hiatt, a sister Doris Smith, a son Jeff Hiatt, and mother in-law Arline Johnson. Roger worked in construction for over 30 years, traveling the country. He and his wife, Marilyn, owned and operated “The Outpost” at Pomme de Terre Lake for many years. Roger enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, drafting and building, NASCAR, country music, and traveling. He was an avid tool collector and a good mechanic. He and his brothers learned to drive tractors at a young age. Roger loved John Deere and working with his Kubota tractor. He was a hard worker and appreciated a job well-done. He will fondly be remembered for wearing bib overalls, rolled up at the cuff. His children will be reminded of his curly hair each time they look in the mirror. The family is grateful for caregivers who provided comfort during his illness, including family members Cindy, Laurie, Mark, and Dan. Angie and Mindy at CMH Hospice offered kind and compassionate care. Per his wishes there will be no memorial service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
