Obituary-Eunice Pieper, 91

Eunice Pieper, 91, of Gladbrook, IA passed away Sunday, September 27, 2015, at Westbrook Acres Nursing Home, in Gladbrook. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 1, 2015, at Peace United Church of Christ, in Gladbrook. Rev. Robert Doner officiated, with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery, in rural Gladbrook. Visitation was from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at Peace United Church of Christ, Gladbrook. Memorials made me directed to the family to be decided on at a later date. Eunice Arp was born December 30, 1923 in Tama County, to Henry and Anna (Rohwer) Arp. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, attending country school. On January 14, 1942 she was united in marriage at Lancaster, Missouri, to the love of her life, Harold F. Pieper, for 61 years. The couple lived south of Gladbrook on their century farm, where they raised their daughters. Eunice enjoyed cooking, gardening, having coffee with friends and helping Harold on the farm. She also loved spending time with all of her grandchildren. Eunice and Harold belonged to the Polka Club of Iowa and enjoyed going to dances and trips with their many friends. Eunice was a member of the Peace United Church of Christ and the Women’s Fellowship. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia (Larry) Johnson of Rothsay, Minnesota, and Jeanette Awes of Marshalltown; seven grandchildren, Tamara Pena, Daniel Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, Scott Vaughn, Darin Vaughn and Grant Awes; 17 great grandchildren; and sister, Marian Schulz of Gladbrook. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents; a daughter, Connie; brothers, Reuben Arp, Milo Arp, LeRoy Arp, and Clarence Arp; sisters, Helen Gillespie, Ellen Hadachek, and Vanetta Sievers; and one great grandson, Simeon.
